Ernie Bryant (Former VCTOC President)

Fabric Wings and Metal Fuselage. First Year Cessna produced the170.

After flying my 1946 Taylorcraft BC12-D all over the USA over a 12-year period, I decided to increase my cargo space and get a break on the "Armstrong Starter" I took with me. The Cessna 170 is not as agile, but it sure is comfortable and has a true Classic Tradition which helps it fit right in with a flotilla of Taylorcraft. Hope to fly along with the VCTOC on many new adventures.

1946 BC 12D

A 65 engine

Cary Rhodes

Originally built in January 1946 I purchased it in a basket in November of 1998 It had been stripped because of fabric failure. I have been restoring it since then. First "New" flight was in April of 2000. I was trying to get it ready for Sun N Fun but didn't quite make it. It flies great. I had tried to restore it to original as possible. The A 65 engine was supposedly in good shape. However, as with every airplane engine I have touched, there was more wrong than meets the eye. I wound up having a 0 since major overhaul. Fabric is AirTech process, Ceconite with AirTech chemicals and paint. Seems to have worked real well. Owner is A civil engineer in Cartersville, GA. Plane is kept at my house on a 2000 foot grass strip in Taylorsville, GA. We have a fly in annually during the summer for all tail draggers in the area.
